"Horaflora "Eaves Drop" has been a long time in the making. i was blown away the first time seeing Raub Roy perform in-store at All Day Records way back in 2010ish, carefully setting up a dozen small contraptions for an immersive physical multi-channel piece. since then he's pursued a number of various compositional avenues with boundless enthusiasm and cheer, as well as running the Weird Ear imprint. combining a wry humbleness with keen senses of levity and humor, he's produced a body of work which straddles DIY noise/punk methods with cerebral composition inclinations, without academic stodginess.
when i first approached him with an idea for an LP focused on those motorized objects he was working with near the end of the 00s, he'd long since moved beyond them in his music, but he had been slowly collecting clandestine field recordings during his near-daily bike-and-bus commute in the Bay Area. more than a year's worth of recordings were selected and edited into this LP, giving a psycho-architectural soundmap of daily life around Oakland CA. we hear children's laughs, yells of anguish, joyful singalongs, rusting machinary, discarded materials dragged and tapped, vehicle sounds, boomboxes blasting in the distance, gravel crunching underfoot, and so much more, all superbly edited into a ever-changing progression. as a nod to his old style of punctuating environmental sounds with his own machinary, some oddball synth timbres are wonderfully incorporated into these pieces. highly recommended and digital versions will be pay-what-you wish upon release. all proceeds to Junglekeepers, an Oakland and Madre de Dios (Peru)-based organization dedicated to preserving Amazonian jungle in cooperation with local indigenous communities, which feels especially pressing as we are seeing the truly grim effects of climate change on the West Coast at this moment."

Great book with an extensive play-by-play and breakdown of two of the 3 long playing pieces; all in all, an incredibly giving look into the practices of some of the worlds top improvisers. horaflora
If I told you an album recorded with pulse generators and a shortwave and distortion soars you’d be sensible to not believe me but this is a glorious noise in full flight. unruh2525
